As we enter an election year – and a rather big one at that – the Right wing is arming to the teeth with pro-domionist, anti-science propaganda; intent on riding the climate denialist horse either into the ground or to the White House – whichever comes first.
Remember not so long ago when the factual support for climate change data – including piles and piles of indisputable scientific statistics – went grossly challenged and almost rendered invalid thanks to a smear campaign against climate experts by the nation’s foremost climate change “deniers?”
Even though the negative campaign itself was thoroughly debunked, the stigma stuck – as even now many anti-science political pundits, lobbyists, Republican presidential candidates (ahem, Perry, Bachmann, etc.) and other corporate-backed naysayers love to reference “Climategate” as their go-to source for attacking the credibility of climate change/science.
Now, though, it seems that new evidence finally “Settles the Climate-Change Debate” by confirming for the world – and especially skeptics – that climate change is real.
In a recent article in The Wall Street Journal, University of California at Berkeley physicist Richard Muller – originally a climate skeptic himself who referred to the debate as being “polluted by political and activist frenzy” – concluded that, in contrast to his original beliefs, “Global warming is real.”
“The Berkeley group’s research even confirms the infamous “hockey stick” graph — showing a sharp recent temperature rise — that Muller once snarkily called “the poster child of the global warming community.” Muller’s new graph isn’t just similar, it’s identical….” – Eugene Robinson, The Washington Post.
But while Muller’s turnaround should be representative of a regressive ideology rendered nonexistent, is his and other’s like it enough to persuade even the most die-hard proponents of climate change denialism?
We are coming up on an election year, and a rather big one at that. The Right wing – armed to the teeth with pro-domionist, anti-science propaganda – are intent on riding the denialist horse either into the ground or to the White House – whichever comes first.
Whether out of ignorance or faith, persuasive suggestion or self-gratification, Republican candidates especially will not let such factual data that proves climate change to lead their flock astray.
