On Friday, we darling spectators of American sensationalism were treated to yet another gem wrought by the nation’s highest-rated “news” network, when Fox News contributor and host Geraldo Rivera – appearing on Fox & Friends – suggested to viewers that Trayvon Martin’s clothing was equally to blame for his death.
Right wing extremism caters to the impressionable who choose not to understand history, science and culture. In a country that is supposed to be leading the world in education, cultural and religious diversity, intellectual advancement and scientific discovery, we continually allow this incessant garbage to dominate and threaten our national dialogue.
In this country, male, religious, tax-exempt “authorities” are granted more access over legislation than the people to whom it affects; where we allow the loudest most absurd voices in the room to get the most airtime because their narrative tends to agree with the ruling majority’s basic tenets of sexism and inequality as supported by “faith”.
Media watchdog group Media Matters has compiled a great video compilation from 2008 of Fox News explaining that it’s just not reasonable to blame the President for high gas prices. Four years later, the Right wing propaganda engine is whistling another tune.
Firing up the cause for regressive politics, Sen. Inhofe’s new book, “The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future,” furthers his plight of inexcusable denial and conspiracy-theorizing while blaming “government regulations” for the state of energy insecurity in which the nation currently finds itself.
