U.S. Congressman Ryan speaks after being introduced by Republican U.S. presidential candidate Romney as vice-presidential running mate during a campaign event in Norfolk

Has Paul Ryan strengthened Romney’s candidacy for President of the United 1% of Jesus America?

Aug 14, 2012 in Politics, Religion

As only the second Catholic to ever be nominated for national office by Republicans, Ryan all-but locks in the devout white Catholic vote. While Romney steers the argument over big business regulations and governmental power, his political antithesis – a career politician – is being sent in to hammer away at the Right’s Biblical sensibilities.

Contraception debate heats up again as faith and facts clash

Aug 1, 2012 in Politics, Religion

Beginning today, women insured under their employers’ plans will “have access to the full range of the Institute of Medicine’s recommended preventive services, including all FDA -approved forms of contraception.” As the majority of religious organizations throughout the world have a seeming love/hate relationship with the notion of sex – combined with the dastardly concept of women’s rights and empowerment – the socially conservative Right is still unsuccessfully trying to wrap its collective head around this one.

Jul 30, 2012 in Culture

Mama Grizzly herself joins other famed conservatives in support of the Chick-fil-A organization; a fast food chain that has donated millions of dollars to anti-gay organizations, including “reparative therapy” groups. Under new conservatism, Right wing laments ‘social experimentation’ (or, ‘Pot, meet Kettle’)

Sep 27, 2011 in Politics, Religion

Instead of properly invoking the premises of small localized governments, fiscal responsibility and personal freedoms, the new Republican party uses/abuses these notions to thinly veil more sinister “plots” rooted in centuries’ old racism, ideology and bigotry.

When social conservatism doesn’t pay (or, Perry admits teen girls have sex, tries to make a buck)

Sep 13, 2011 in Politics

Republican Governor and presidential candidate Rick Perry is catching some heat for recent televised debate comments over his apparent big-brother-ish assault on American citizens’ free will while also going against the mantra of sexual anti-recognition (or the idea that young people in this country do not have sex).

East coast earthquake teases country with religious fanaticism

Aug 27, 2011 in Culture, Religion

It appears that this week’s earthquake on the nation’s east coast had one noticeable upside: it brought the religious crazies on every side closer together. Oddly enough, true believers still can’t agree on just who the Big Guy is mad at.
